Our Fenerbahçe Safiport Women’s Basketball Team, which was defeated 60-55 in the EuroLeague Women’s Final Four final hosted by our club, won the match against Hungarian representative Sopron Basket at Ülker Sports and Event Hall and came in second in Europe.
In the EuroLeague Women Final Four Third/Fourth place match, Perfumerias Avenida defeated ZVVZ USK Prague 71-59 and finished third.
FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel, Turkish Basketball Federation President Hidayet Türkoğlu, our Board Members, Women’s Football Team and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu also watched the match.
Fenerbahçe Safiport Women’s Basketball Team started the game with Olcay Çakır Turgut, Kayla McBride, Alina Iagupova, Satou Sabally and Elizabeth Williams.
Fenerbahce returned empty handed from the first attack with the jump shot; He started the game fast (4-0) with Gabby Williams in Sopron Basket. Failed to score in the first three minutes of the quarter, Sopron scored 7-0 with Zsofia Fegyverneky’s three-pointer from behind the line. Our first points in the match came from Satou Sabally (12-3). In the quarter where the margin was up to 10 points (14-4), Fenerbahçe made moves with McBride to make the difference, but Sopron Basket finished the first quarter ahead (16-6).
Starting the quarter fast with Elizabeth Williams and Alina Iagupova, Fenerbahçe Safiport Women’s Basketball Team narrowed the gap to 5 points (16-11). The opponent’s first points in the second quarter came from Briann (18-11). Afterwards, our Women’s Basketball Team, which effectively used the bottom of the basket with Elizabeth Williams, kept the lead by 5 points (18-13). Continuing to the conclusion with the fast attacks of Gabby Williams and Bernadett Hatar, Sopron carried the score to 25-15. Leading 27-19 in the last minute, the representative of Hungary was ahead 29-19 in the locker room.
The third quarter started with Satou Sabally and Stefanie Dolson’s mutual baskets (31-21). Afterwards, the score came to 31-26 with the 5-0 series of Olcay Çakır Turgut and Bria Hartley. In this part of the quarter where the opponent’s offensive efficiency decreased, Olcay Çakır reduced the lead to 1 point with Turgut’s extra game (33-32). 4 minutes before the end of the match with Hatar and Williams, the rival team caught 39-33. Having displayed a productive image in the last 4 minutes of the quarter when Amanda Zahui stepped in, our team scored consecutive points in order to break the gap, but Sopron, who recovered with Briann and Brooks, entered the final period ahead 45-38, maintaining its scoring advantage.
Although the first points in the final period came from Briann in Sopron Basket, Fenerbahçe Safiport Women’s Basketball Team brought the score 51-44 with Amanda Zahui and Elizabeth Williams. Reducing the gap to 5 points in the quarter, which was the scene of great contention, our team lost 60-55 in the battle where Sopron went to the end with their scorers.
