We commemorate our legend, Can Bartu, who has a very important place in the history of our club and whose name is identified with Fenerbahçe, with respect and mercy on the 3rd anniversary of his departure.
Can Bartu, a great Fenerbahçe player, was born on January 31, 1936. Can Bartu, who took his first step into sports in the Fenerbahçe Young Men’s Basketball Team in 1949, took part in the team that won the Istanbul and Turkey championships in 1955.
Bartu, who played for the national basketball team 6 times, continued to play in the Fenerbahçe basketball team, and became one of the two players taken from the basketball team due to the lack of football players in the Edirnespor-Fenerbahçe match.
Bartu, who helped his team win 1-0 by scoring four goals, three of which were not counted, started playing football in Fenerbahçe through Fikret Arıcan.
Can Bartu, sweating the yellow and dark blue jersey between 1955 – 61 and 67-70, won 4 league championships; He became a national 28 times.
The legendary name, who is the first and only athlete to wear the national team uniform in both basketball and football, played both football and basketball matches on the same day.
Drawing attention with his successful football in Fenerbahçe and the national team, Can Bartu transferred to Italy’s Fiorentina team in 1961. Bartu, who also wore Venezia and Lazio jerseys in Italy, played against Atletico Madrid in the 1962 Cup Winners’ Cup final with Fiorentina jersey and became the first Turkish football player to play in the final in a cup organization organized by UEFA.
The legendary football player, named “Señor Bartu” by Italian fans, returned to Turkey in 1967 after a successful period in Italy and reunited with Fenerbahçe.
Stunning with his technical and elegant play, Bartu played 326 matches and scored 162 goals under the yellow-dark blue jersey of which he was the captain.

The legendary football player made a historical gesture by playing in the Galatasaray jersey for Metin Oktay’s jubilee match played between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray in 1969.
In the Turkey-Romania match in 1958, after goalkeeper Turgay Şeren was injured, Can Bartu, who went to the goal in the last seven minutes of the fight, conceded a goal from his teammate.
After quitting football in 1970, Bartu became a commentator in various newspapers and televisions, and lastly met with the yellow-dark blue fans with the program “Football Agenda with Can Bartu” on Fenerbahçe Television screens.
Can Bartu was selected as UEFA’s ambassador to Turkey for the 2008-2009 season UEFA Cup final hosted by Ülker Stadium Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex.
The name of Can Bartu, who is also a member of the Fenerbahçe Sports Club High Council Board, was given to the Samandıra Facilities in the past years.
